MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 2 /PRNewswire/-- Standards for Technology in Automotive Retail (STAR), a global information technology (IT) standards body for the retail automotive industry, published Draft Releases 4.2.3 and 5.1.3 on December 28, 2007. Releases 4.2.3 and 5.1.3 include modifications to the Credit Contract, Parts Invoice, Parts Pick List, Standard Codes and Vehicle Inventory specifications to support requests made by STAR Member Organizations including Chrysler Financial, Freightliner, Oxlo Systems, and RouteOne. In addition to modifying existing specifications, release 5.1.3 also includes new Parts Price List messaging specifications. This group of specifications provides a common means of communicating parts catalogue information to dealers. These messages are intended to simplify the process of gathering and applying price revisions for dealers' parts inventory. Participants in the Parts Price List development effort included Navistar and Freightliner, and unlike other standards development efforts STAR undertakes, this particular project was initiated by STAR's Dealer Advisory Group (DAG). The DAG is a volunteer group comprised of nine dealers that have come together to provide STAR with insight into the day-to-day operations of the dealership and how those operations could be improved upon with development of standards.
