Auto Manufacturers, Dealers to Stress Importance of Single, National Fuel Economy Standard in Briefing

WASHINGTON, April 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, American International Automobile Dealers Association, Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, and the National Automobile Dealers Association will host a briefing for members of the media to discuss the importance of preserving the single, national fuel economy standard signed into law last year. Efforts in Congress (S. 2555 Boxer and H.R. 5560 Welsh/Sherman) to overturn the EPA waiver decision would create a new state-by-state fuel efficiency standard for the industry. This would result in unnecessary manufacturing complexity, compliance inefficiencies and a reduction in consumer choice.

WHAT: This educational briefing will discuss why a patchwork of state fuel economy standards would create market disruptions, increase compliance costs for vehicle manufacturers, and result in higher prices for consumers and how a nationwide standard creates market stability while dramatically cutting greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide) and fuel consumption.
