Border Patrol Agent David Webb Dies From 'Roof Crush' in Rollover

DEL MAR, Calif., May 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Sometime between 5 and 5:30 PM on the evening of November 3rd, 2006 in Why, Arizona, a tiny town with a population of about 500 situated in the middle of the desert, United States Border Patrol Agent David Webb was responding to a routine narcotics call when the right rear tire of his 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe blew out. He was traveling at a speed of approximately 65 miles per hour. After the blow-out his SUV continued to travel, but at a lower speed, as Webb fought to regain control of the vehicle and in a possible avoidance maneuver turned back onto the road. That is when the rollover occurred. The accident rendered him unconscious and with a fractured skull; the trauma, causing him to inhale gastric contents.

David Webb, a 35-year-old husband and father of two young boys and a Border Patrol Agent for two and a half years-- never regained consciousness.

After his death, Webb's widow Celia received a Medal of Honor Award posthumously, honoring her husband, from the American Police Hall of Fame.

David Webb loved his country. He was, according to his wife Celia, "a very responsible and conscientious agent who wanted to protect our country."

Webb served in the National Guard from 2000 to 2004 and was deployed to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt for 6 months in 2002. He was a Border Patrol Agent from 2004 to 2006.

Until now, his wife Celia said she had no idea that her husband was driving in an unsafe vehicle, "Every time I see a Tahoe, I feel I should tell people to get rid of it. I am mad at General Motors for all the short-cuts they have taken which resulted in my husband's death."

"People assume," said Celia Webb, "that the driver did something wrong and maybe the driver was going too fast or was drinking. Now, I know that is wrong. My husband was an excellent driver. The weak roof caved in on him and crushed him to death."

Celia Webb plans to attend the Senate Hearing on 'Roof Crush' scheduled for Wednesday, June 4th, from 10 to 11:30 AM in room 253 Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. She plans to participate in the June 3rd Press Conference from 10:30 to 11:30 AM outside the Russell Senate Office Building hosted by People Safe in Rollovers Foundation.
